Once a child said to the Lord, 'I am waiting.' He said, 'What right have you to wait? It's only I who makes you wait. Who are you to say you are waiting?' [Swamiji laughs]
I didn't catch the full meaning before when they said, 'God is everything,' Then I used to think: God is all success. But I am sure Krishna would say in the Bhagavad Gita, 'I am also failure.' So if the heart fails, it is He. It isn't only Him when the heart was pumping, it was Him when it failed too. He is both success and failure.
You must smell out your master [God] under any mask. So smell Him out in failure, in disgrace, in censure. Smell Him out. You are fond of smelling Him out only in success.
There is another great Master that you should think about and that is Ramana Maharishi [pictured above]. Ramana Maharishi was Lord Shiva himself in the nineteenth century. Though he did not make ashrams [monasteries] and send out messengers, his life shows that he was the highest manifestation of Lord Shiva. He lived at Arunachalam in India.
Sri Sarada Devi said: 'Do not love someone less and someone more - love all equally' She said, 'See me even in a cat.' Sri Krishna said 'Do all this worship to me and come to me.' Then your path is clear and this becomes your natural duty. Otherwise it is a bondage. Don't think and do - just do. In the beginning you do with intellect, later it will become natural. It takes over and does all.
Swami Vivekananda [the lead disciple of Sri Ramakrishna] said, 'Combine all the yogas'. How? Sri Krishna says, 'Come to Me, do all for Me and I will give you mukti, I will protect all you have.'
